Many people are living without any kind of health insurance, and for
several reasons. Some work for employers who do not offer health
insurance benefits – sadly, this isn’t required of employers – and some
are unemployed. Many people are self-employed, which means they are
their own employers and can not offer themselves a group policy unless
they have employees. Other people are disabled or otherwise unable to
work, but are having trouble obtaining disability benefits.
One option to get health insurance is to buy an individual health
insurance policy. But those are pretty expensive, right? Not if you do
your homework and find a low cost individual health insurance plan.
Does low cost individual health insurance exist? Yes and no. We all know
that purchasing an individual health insurance policy is generally much
more expensive than getting your health coverage through an employer or
through an organization with which you are affiliated; however, that
does not mean that you have to sign over your life savings to get a low
cost individual health insurance plan. You just have to do a little
research.
Enter into the search for low cost individual health insurance with the
understanding that you are not going to experience a miracle; at best,
you will find an individual health insurance policy that you can live
with. Since you are going to be paying for your individual health
insurance policy entirely out of your own pocket, it is crucial that you
make sure the policy offers everything you need. If you have a
pre-existing condition that absolutely must be monitored by a health
care professional, but will not be covered under the individual health
insurance policy you are looking at, stop looking at that policy – even
if that policy is within your price range. In the end, you can not
consider it “low cost” if you have to pick up the tab for what it will
not cover.
